SUMMARY To issue permits, conduct inspections, and enforce construction codes, local zoning, and flood plain ordinance to ensure compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reviews blueprints, drawings and site plans submitted with permit applications to ensure proper construction plans. Issues building, plumbing, mechanical, sign permits. Issues violation/correction notices and condemnation notices. Determines valuation of construction. Inspects building sites during and upon completion of construction to ensure compliance with adopted codes. Issues certificates of occupancy.
Ensures contractors are properly licensed and construction is properly permitted. Sign Code enforcement officer.
Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS Written and verbal communications; public relations; organizational; general construction code interpretation and understanding.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High School graduate, plus two years additional training in building and construction. Minimum of three (3) years continuous experience as a Building Inspector with a municipal or independent agency. Extensive experience in the construction industry may be considered in lieu of Building Inspector experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must have ICC certification as a residential and commercial building inspector. ICC certification in multiple trades preferred. ICC certification and State of Colorado Manufactured Housing Certified Inspector or able to obtain within 6 months of employment. Valid Colorado driver’s license.
